Second Annual Report : August 1997

Appendix 4

Inland Consumption of Major Petroleum Products

The predominance of petrol and diesel is very evident, as is the growing importance of jet fuel. During 1996 there was strong growth in the consumption of all the major products with the exception of LPG.

The figures in these charts and table show the dominance of and steady growth in petrol consumption over the last decade (61% increase 1996 over 1985) compared with the almost static demand for diesel, before the 6% increases in 1995 and 1996.

Paraffin consumption has almost doubled over the past ten years, while the demand for jet fuel has risen rapidly since South Africa's re-entry into the international community.
